Riegl – Advanced LiDAR Solutions
Partner Description: Riegl is a global leader in the development and production of high-performance LiDAR scanners and scanning systems for terrestrial, industrial, mobile, and airborne applications. Their technology is renowned for its precision, accuracy, and reliability in complex environments.
Our Partnership: The integration of Riegl’s state-of-the-art LiDAR sensors onto our Callisto platforms transforms our drones into powerful tools for high-density 3D data acquisition.
Specific Integration: Current Integration with VQ-840-G which is a fully integrated compact airborne laser scanner for combined bathymetric and topographic surveying. The system is offered with an optionally integrated and factory-calibrated IMU/GNSS system and can be complemented with an optional camera or IR rangefinder. The scanner carries out laser range measurements for high resolution surveying of underwater topography.
The Callisto 50 and the Riegl VQ-840-G have been integrated and used by Australian Defence Force, Australian Antarctic division for scanning off Macquarie Island.

Project Example: Recently, the Australian Antarctic Division deployed the Freespace Operations Callisto 50 drone equipped with the RIEGL VQ-840-G bathymetric LiDAR to conduct site surveys for the new $370 million Macquarie Island research station. Designed to be safer, more sustainable, and operationally resilient, the new station will support critical science and environmental monitoring for decades to come.
The Callisto 50 and RIEGL LiDAR were used for maritime surveys in challenging weather conditions. Despite the harsh environment, both the aircraft and sensor performed exceptionally, delivering the high-quality data the team required in one of the most remote locations on Earth. This project demonstrates the reliability, performance, and operational confidence that the Callisto–RIEGL system provides.
